Interacting With Chicago’s Digital Marketers

RIVER NORTH (Chicago) – How can you guarantee top-shelf attendence at a biz/tech networking event on a beautiful summer evening? Lots of drinks and no speaker. Let's take a gander at a CIMA-style soirée.

Light one up for Christine Schmidt (the one in the pink), who has taken the reigns at CIMA (the Chicago Interactive Marketing Association) with authority. The setting for the happy hour (at Nacional 27 on West Huron) was jam-packed with chitter-chatterers cutting virtual deals and chewing the virtual fat.
Reflecting the pay-for-play values of the bear market, CIMA gateway to entry included a $15 cover at the door.
CIMA President Dawn Benati, who also applies her integrated marketing expertise at LKHS, gets up close and personal with the ePrairie lens.
ePrairie friend and drink sponsor Mary Shaughnessy, a partner at Cube Public Relations, rolled through the party before heading off the dinner hour with a client, Michael Shmarak.
Marcello Benati, who has drafted a case study of the burst of marchFIRST, shares a frame with interactive marketing pioneer Kent Woloson who, after significant roles at Yahoo! and AllAdvantage.com, just took a gig at America Online.
Would you believe that Nacional 27 was hawking these puny margs for nine bucks? Thankfully, marketers know to tip to their photogs, even if they spend their days selling ads.

Morse code was arguably the first form of interactive communication, and to acknowledge that feat (and find a media buying gig), Melinda Morse (left) arrived with friend Heide Dryier, an account exec at WMAQ-TV.
Didn't catch this guy's name, but he knew an extradorinary amount of detail about mangos.
All dudded up for the party was Rob Reynolds of LifeServ.
Allow me to introduce you to Michael Shmarak, who just took a new gig at Ruder Finn.
A hrrrumph to Goose Island co-founder Todd Holmes (left), who recently launched Liquidus, which is billed as a "full-service marketing and communications agency."
The apps were delicious.

It's not really a party until someone walks in with a sombrero.
No May on this fine day.
Hola to former Porter Novelli and TruePoints exec Susan Weiss, who just launched a new PR boutique.
Take a peek at marketing and publications consultant Gerri Kelly (who has spent time in the ranks of Edelman and Participate.com). Doesn't she bode a striking resemblance to Kate Blancette? Just thinkin' out loud...
Is that a rugby shirt?
That's all for now. See ya on the boat, CIMA folks. We hope!
